How might we
replace writing or printing paper for student and office use while bringing the convenience of digital world, at an affordable price?
The Problem Statement
Paper is a hassle to store, has non-editable content and creates a messy workplace. Moreover, the environmental impacts are huge.
Paper is simply not productive enough!
- Inconvenient to store
- Hard to edit what you write
- Creates a mess in your workplace
Extreme environmental impacts!
User Research
Some interesting things we found out from our user research.
People like paper because:
- 3D feeling - the ability to feel, flip and hold paper
- Tactile feedback - the feeling of the pen writing on paper
- Ability to write - the act of writing itself
People dislike paper because
- Non-editable content - you can't change what you write neatly
- Storage - hassle to store, can't easily find what you need
- Wastage
User Needs
Based on our user research, we came up with these 6 main user needs.
We strive to satisfy all of them.
Our Solution
D-Note
- Modular Screen - 2 modular screens that can be easily separated for individual use (i.e referring to another document, etc) or combined together to form 1 large surface for writing.
- Sturdy and lightweight
- Paper-feeling Screen Protector - gives the feel and the friction of paper
Value Proposition
We compared similar existing products based on our user needs.
Next Steps
Our future plans
User
(Current Task)
We've come up with 3 demo ideas to test on users and gain feedback on our product. This will help us:
- Determine the best size and form factor
- Demonstrate the writing function and paper-feeling touchscreen
- Demonstrate the modular function
Success Metrics
After the product has been developed,
We plan on measuring the amount of paper used by SUTD students and staff in a week before and after we give them D-Note.
Our Team
We've got a top notch team!
